Ryukyu Glass Village (琉球ガラス村) in Itoman is a working glassblowing factory and workshop where visitors can watch artisans craft colorful Ryukyu glass and try blowing their own piece. The on-site gallery sells finished pieces at factory prices.
Ryukyu glass originated in the post-war era, when Okinawan craftspeople recycled discarded Coca-Cola and beer bottles from US military bases. The distinctive bubbles and vivid colors that came from recycled glass became the signature style. Today, Ryukyu glass is a designated Okinawan traditional craft.
