The Okinawa Peace Memorial Museum (沖縄県平和祈念資料館) within Peace Memorial Park provides an unflinching account of the Battle of Okinawa through survivor testimonies, photographs, and artifacts. It is one of Japan's most important war museums.
Opened in 1975 and completely renovated in 2000, the museum was created by the Okinawa Prefectural Government to preserve the memory of the battle and advocate for peace. Its exhibits are notable for presenting the civilian perspective rather than a purely military narrative.
