Highlights
- Precious Stones: Jaipur cuts and polishes 90% of the world's emeralds — Johari Bazaar is where they surface for sale.
- Kundan & Meenakari: Intricate jewellery styles unique to Rajasthan, using uncut gems set in gold.
- Street Snacks: Renowned for Rajasthani sweets and savoury snacks like pyaaz kachori and lassi.
History
Johari Bazaar has operated as a jewellery market since Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II laid out Jaipur's grid-plan city in 1727. Jaipur became a global gem-cutting centre in the 18th century and the bazaar has been at the centre of that trade ever since.
