Galtaji (also known as the Monkey Temple of Jaipur) is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site set in a narrow rocky gorge in the Aravalli hills east of Jaipur. The complex features pink sandstone temples and seven sacred water tanks (kunds) fed by natural springs, surrounded by hundreds of resident macaque monkeys.
According to legend, the sage Galav meditated here for 100 years, and the gods rewarded his devotion by creating the water springs. The temples were built by Diwan Kriparam, a courtier of Sawai Jai Singh II, in the 18th century. The site remains an active pilgrimage destination, especially during the festival of Makar Sankranti.
