Reis Magos Fort

Overview

Reis Magos Fort is a beautifully restored 16th-century laterite fortress on the north bank of the Mandovi River, facing Panaji. Built in 1551, it now serves as a cultural centre hosting contemporary art exhibitions and events.

History

Built by the first Portuguese Viceroy, it served as a military garrison and later a prison. Restored by the Goa Heritage Action Group and reopened in 2012 as a museum and cultural centre.

• Combine: Take the ferry across from Panaji for a scenic approach.
