Chickpet is the commercial heart of old Bengaluru, a dense warren of narrow lanes crammed with silk shops, wholesale stores, and traditional businesses. It offers an authentic glimpse into the city's pre-tech trading heritage.
Chickpet has been a center of trade since Kempe Gowda I founded Bengaluru in the 16th century. The name derives from "Chikka Pete" (small market) and it has continuously served as the city's primary marketplace for nearly 500 years.
