History

The Grand Theatre opened in 1989 as one of Shenzhen's first major cultural buildings, at a time when the city was still primarily known as a manufacturing zone. Its construction signalled Shenzhen's early ambitions to develop cultural infrastructure. The building was renovated in 2012.
