Shenzhen Civic Center is a massive government and cultural complex in the heart of Futian District, recognisable by its sweeping roofline that resembles a giant bird in flight. Designed by American architect Lee Timchula, the building anchors the city's central axis and serves as Shenzhen's administrative heart.
Completed in 2004, the Civic Center was designed to give Shenzhen — a city without historic monuments — an iconic civic landmark. The bird-wing roof design was chosen from an international competition and has become one of the city's most recognised silhouettes.
