Shenzhen Mangrove Nature Reserve is a 368-hectare wetland area along the northern shore of Shenzhen Bay, protecting one of the few remaining mangrove ecosystems within a major Chinese city. It is internationally recognised as an Important Bird Area.
The reserve was established in 1984 as one of China's first urban nature reserves. It gained international recognition when listed as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. Despite being surrounded by some of Asia's most expensive real estate, the reserve has been successfully protected from development.
