Fairy Lake Botanical Garden (Xianhu) covers 590 hectares on the slopes east of central Shenzhen, making it one of China's largest botanical gardens. It contains over 12,000 plant species across themed gardens, plus a Buddhist temple complex at its upper reaches.
The garden was established in 1983 as part of Shenzhen's green belt planning. Hongfa Temple was added in 1985 and has since expanded into one of the largest Buddhist temples in southern China. The botanical garden received national designation and has become a key site for tropical plant research.
