Macau Museum

Overview

The Macau Museum occupies the historic Monte Fort and presents a comprehensive narrative of the territory's multicultural identity across three exhibition floors. It is the city's principal museum for understanding how Portuguese, Chinese, and Macanese cultures shaped modern Macau.

History

The museum opened in 1998, one year before the handover of Macau to China. It was deliberately situated inside Monte Fort to connect the territory's military heritage with its civilian cultural story. The collections were assembled from local donations and government archives.
