The Chapel of Our Lady of Penha sits atop Penha Hill, one of Macau's most elevated points on the peninsula, offering sweeping panoramic views over Nam Van Lake, the Macau-Taipa Bridge, and the Macau Tower. The chapel and its surrounding garden form one of the city's most photogenic viewpoints.
The original chapel was built in 1622 by Augustinian monks. It has been rebuilt several times, most recently in 1935 in its present neoclassical style. The hilltop was historically one of Macau's first strategic European settlements due to its commanding harbour views.
