Luodai Ancient Town is a 1,700-year-old Hakka settlement 20 km east of Chengdu — one of the largest Hakka communities in western China. Its distinctive Hakka walled compounds and clan halls set it apart from typical Sichuan architecture.
Hakka immigrants from Guangdong and Fujian provinces settled here during the early Qing dynasty (17th century) as part of a government campaign to repopulate war-devastated Sichuan. Their distinctive culture and architecture have been preserved for over 300 years.
