Kuanzhai Alley (Wide and Narrow Alleys) is a historic district comprising three parallel lanes — Kuan Xiangzi (Wide Alley), Zhai Xiangzi (Narrow Alley), and Jing Xiangzi (Well Alley). Each has a distinct character blending Qing-dynasty courtyard architecture with modern cafés and galleries.
Built in 1718 during the Qing dynasty as a garrison settlement for Manchu soldiers, the alleys fell into disrepair. A major restoration completed in 2008 preserved 45 original courtyard buildings while adding modern amenities.
