Chengdu Museum

Overview

Chengdu Museum is a modern five-story museum in Tianfu Square showcasing the city's 4,500 years of history. The striking geometric building, designed by Sutherland Hussey Harris, houses over 200,000 artifacts from ancient Shu civilization to modern Chengdu.

Highlights

• Ancient Shu Gallery: Artifacts from the mysterious ancient Shu kingdom, including bronze and jade pieces.
• Shadow Puppet Exhibition: One of China's finest collections of Sichuan shadow puppets and stage sets.

History

Opened in 2016, the new Chengdu Museum replaced a smaller facility. The collection spans from Neolithic pottery to Republic-era photography, with particular strength in items from the ancient Shu and Three Kingdoms periods.
