Overview
The Red Brick Art Museum is a stunning private contemporary art museum in Beijing's northeastern Shunyi district, designed by architect Dong Yugan using a striking round-brick constructive technique inspired by ancient kilns.
Highlights
- Architecture: The building itself is a work of art — circular brick arches, soaring vaulted ceilings, and dramatic natural light create cathedral-like gallery spaces.
- Garden: A contemplative Zen-inspired landscape garden surrounding the building, designed as an integral part of the experience.
- Photography: The interplay of light, brick textures, and geometric forms makes it one of Beijing's most photogenic buildings.
History
Opened in 2014, it was commissioned by collector Yan Shijie and designed by Dong Yugan. The architecture draws on ancient Chinese brick kiln construction traditions, using handmade bricks laid without mortar in some sections.
