The Zentrum Paul Klee is a museum dedicated entirely to the life and work of Paul Klee, housing approximately 4,000 of his works — the world's largest single-artist collection. Designed by Renzo Piano and opened in 2005, the building's three undulating steel waves echo the landscape of the nearby hills.
Paul Klee was born near Bern in 1879, spent significant years in Bavaria and the Bauhaus, and returned to Bern in 1933 when the Nazis labelled his work 'degenerate art'. He lived and worked in Bern until his death in 1940. The museum was made possible by a donation from the Klee family and the Müller family, with Renzo Piano selected as architect in 1998.
