The Natural History Museum of Bern is one of Switzerland's most important natural history collections, famous for its taxidermied animals and geological exhibits. Its most beloved resident is Barry, the legendary Saint Bernard rescue dog from the Great St Bernard Pass.
Founded in 1832, the museum moved to its present neoclassical building near Helvetiaplatz in 1936. Barry was donated to the museum after his death in 1814 and has been one of Bern's most popular attractions ever since. The museum underwent major renovations in the early 2000s to modernise its diorama displays.
