Kleine Schanze is a small, elevated park directly beside the Bundeshaus and the main railway station. Perched on what remains of the old city fortifications, it offers a quiet green space with benches, mature trees, and views south toward the Aar valley and the distant Alps.
The Kleine Schanze was part of Bern's 17th-century fortification system. When the walls were dismantled in the 19th century, the rampart was turned into a public promenade. It has been a cherished rest spot for locals ever since.
