The WA Maritime Museum sits on Fremantle's Victoria Quay in a bold, angular building designed by Cox Howlett & Bailey Woodland. It celebrates Western Australia's relationship with the ocean — from Aboriginal fishing traditions to the America's Cup and modern naval vessels.
Opened in 2002, the museum was built to house the Australia II yacht and commemorate Fremantle's role as host port for the 1987 America's Cup defence. The adjacent submarine HMAS Ovens was opened to the public in 2005.
