The Round House is Western Australia's oldest public building, a 12-sided stone prison built in 1831 on Arthur Head at the entrance to Fremantle Harbour. It now serves as a small museum with sweeping views of Bathers Beach and the Indian Ocean.
Designed by Colonial Engineer Henry Reveley, the Round House was built to house petty offenders before the establishment of Fremantle Prison. It served various functions over the decades — whalers' store, police lockup, and harbour master's office — before restoration as a heritage site.
