Resurrection Cathedral

Overview

The Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral (Katedralja Ngjallja e Krishtit) is one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in Europe, completed in 2012. Its modern design by New York architect Pasko Vasa features a soaring bell tower and a luminous interior decorated with traditional iconography.

History

The original Orthodox cathedral of Tirana was demolished by the communist regime in 1967 when Albania declared itself the world's first atheist state. The new cathedral was consecrated on 24 June 2012, built on a different site with funding from the Albanian-American community.
