The Grand Park of Tirana (Parku i Madh Kodrat e Liqenit) is the capital's largest green space, covering 230 hectares around an artificial lake south of the city centre. It's where Tiranans come to jog, cycle, picnic, and escape the urban buzz.
The park was established in 1956 during the communist era, when the artificial lake was dug by volunteer labour brigades. A major renovation in 2011 improved paths, added playgrounds, and replanted native species.
