Cork City Gaol is a restored 19th-century prison perched on a hilltop in Sunday's Well, offering a vivid look at Victorian-era incarceration through lifelike wax figures and audio installations.
The gaol opened in 1824 as a model prison inspired by reformist ideals, with individual cells and a progressive work programme. It closed as a prison in 1923, served briefly as a broadcasting station for Radio Éireann, and reopened as a heritage centre in 1993.
