Manchester Bee Trail

Overview

The Manchester Bee Trail is a self-guided walking route through the city centre, linking over 100 worker bee symbols embedded in Manchester's architecture, street art, bollards and mosaics. The bee has been Manchester's emblem of industry and community since the Industrial Revolution.

Highlights

• Street Art Bees: Large-scale bee murals in the Northern Quarter, Stevenson Square and behind Piccadilly.
• Architectural Bees: Historical bee motifs on the Town Hall, Central Library and coat-of-arms throughout the city.
• Bee in the City Legacy: Some trail pieces originated from the 2018 Bee in the City public art event.

History

The worker bee was first adopted as Manchester's symbol in 1842, representing the city's industrious spirit. After the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, the bee became a global symbol of solidarity and resilience.
