Prior Park Landscape Garden is an 18th-century landscape garden created by local entrepreneur Ralph Allen with advice from Alexander Pope and Capability Brown. Set in a sweeping valley south of the city, it features one of only four surviving Palladian bridges in the world and offers magnificent views across Bath.
Ralph Allen, who made his fortune modernising the British postal service, built Prior Park mansion between 1735 and 1750 to showcase Bath stone. The landscape garden was designed as a showcase for the 18th-century ideals of picturesque beauty, with Alexander Pope and Capability Brown both contributing to its layout.
