Overview

Peine del Viento (The Wind Comb) is a sculptural masterpiece by Eduardo Chillida — three massive steel forms embedded in the rocky shoreline at the western tip of La Concha Bay. The work interacts dramatically with waves and wind, making each visit unique.

Highlights

• Chillida's Signature Work: Created in 1977, it is the most famous public sculpture in the Basque Country.
• Wave Blasts: At high tide, waves crash through blowholes in the terrace, sending spray metres into the air.

History

The collaboration between sculptor Chillida and architect Peña Ganchegui began in the late 1960s. After years of planning and engineering challenges, the three forged-steel pieces weighing up to 10 tonnes each were installed in the rocks in 1977.
