The Paseo de la Concha is San Sebastián's signature seafront promenade, curving 1.7 km along La Concha Bay between the town hall and the Miramar Palace. Its ornate white wrought-iron balustrade is the city's most recognisable emblem.
The promenade was constructed in the late 19th century as San Sebastián transformed into a fashionable seaside resort. The now-famous railing was designed by Juan Rafael Alday and installed in 1916, replacing an earlier wooden balustrade.
