La Concha is widely regarded as one of the best urban beaches in Europe, stretching 1,350 metres along a near-perfect crescent of golden sand between Monte Urgull and Monte Igueldo. Its calm, shallow waters and elegant Belle Époque promenade have drawn visitors since the Spanish royal court made San Sebastián its summer capital in the 19th century.
Queen Isabel II chose San Sebastián as her summer retreat in the 1840s, igniting the beach's fame. The seaside promenade and changing huts were built in the early 1900s, and La Concha has remained Spain's most prestigious beach ever since.
