Overview

Gros (Gross in Basque) is the trendy district east of the Urumea River, defined by Zurriola Beach and a laid-back surf culture. It offers excellent pintxos bars, craft beer spots, and a younger, more local alternative to the Parte Vieja.

History

Gros was a working-class district until the 1990s regeneration that brought the Kursaal and improved Zurriola Beach. The influx of young professionals, surf culture, and creative kitchens has made it one of the city's most desirable neighbourhoods.
