The Museu de Mallorca is the island's principal history and archaeology museum, housed in the 17th-century Can Aiamans palace in the heart of the old town. It recently reopened after a long renovation with a modern exhibition layout spanning prehistory to modern art.
Founded in 1961, the museum consolidated collections from several earlier institutions. The palace itself, Can Aiamans, was built in 1634 and served as the residence of the Counts of Aiamans before becoming a public museum.
