Cala Major is a popular urban beach nestled between rocky headlands just west of the city centre. Backed by pine-covered hills and close to the Miró Foundation, it offers accessible swimming and a local, unfussy atmosphere.
Cala Major has been a bathing spot since at least the early 20th century. The Spanish royal family's Marivent Palace sits on the hillside above the beach, and the area has long attracted artists — Joan Miró settled nearby in 1956.
