The Roman Theatre (Teatro Romano) is a 1st-century BC performance venue discovered in 1951 at the foot of the Alcazaba. It is one of the oldest Roman monuments in Spain and has been partially restored for open-air performances.
Built during the reign of Emperor Augustus (1st century BC), the theatre was used until the 3rd century AD. Stones from the theatre were later reused in the construction of the Alcazaba above. It was accidentally rediscovered in 1951 during garden landscaping.
