Centre Pompidou Málaga

Overview

The Centre Pompidou Málaga is the first branch of the iconic Parisian institution outside France. Housed beneath a multicoloured glass cube on the Muelle Uno waterfront, it presents a rotating selection of modern and contemporary art from the Pompidou's 120,000-piece collection.

• Glass cube: Daniel Buren's polychromatic cube has become one of Málaga's most photographed landmarks.
• Semi-permanent collection: Works by Frida Kahlo, Francis Bacon, Magritte, and Chagall in two-year rotations.

History

Opened in March 2015 under a five-year agreement (since renewed), the branch was part of Málaga's ambitious plan to transform the port area into a cultural corridor.

Visitor Tips

• Sunday free entry: Free from 4 pm on Sundays.
• Combine with Muelle Uno: The surrounding promenade is excellent for a post-museum stroll.
• Duration: 1–1.5 hours.
