The Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao (Bilbao Fine Arts Museum) is one of Spain's most important art museums, housing over 10,000 works from the 12th century to the present. Set at the edge of Parque de Doña Casilda, it rivals Madrid's major museums in quality.
Founded in 1908, the museum merged with the Museum of Modern Art in 1945. Its current building combines a 1945 neo-classical wing with a modern extension completed in 2001. The collection has grown through acquisitions and donations into one of Spain's finest.
