Overview
Čumil, affectionately known as 'The Watcher' or 'Man at Work,' is a bronze statue of a grinning man peering out of a street manhole on Laurinská and Panská streets. It has become the unofficial mascot of Bratislava and the city's most photographed artwork.

History
Created by sculptor Viktor Hulík and installed in 1997, the statue was part of a project to enliven the recently pedestrianized old town. Its exact meaning is debated—some say it represents a sewer worker, others a voyeur enjoying the view.
