Overview
The Øresund Bridge is one of Scandinavia's most iconic engineering feats — a combined road and rail link stretching 7.8 km across the strait between Malmö and Copenhagen. Several viewpoints around Malmö offer dramatic perspectives.
Highlights
- Engineering marvel: The bridge transitions to a tunnel via the artificial island Peberholm, creating a unique dual structure.
- Sunset spot: The western orientation makes this an excellent sunset location.
- Bron/Broen connection: The bridge starred in the hit Scandi-noir TV series "The Bridge."
History
Opened on 1 July 2000, the bridge was a transformative infrastructure project that linked Sweden and Denmark for the first time since the last Ice Age. It cost approximately 30 billion SEK and is used by 70,000 travellers daily.
