Skansen Kronan is a 17th-century fortress perched atop Risåsberget hill in the Haga district. Built between 1687 and 1700, the sturdy circular tower was designed to defend Gothenburg's southern flank — though it never saw battle. Today it offers some of the best panoramic views of the city.
Constructed 1687–1700 by military engineer Erik Dahlbergh, Skansen Kronan was part of a defensive ring around the young city of Gothenburg. Despite never being attacked, it served as a military prison and barracks until the 19th century. It was opened to the public in the 1930s and now hosts occasional events and exhibitions.
