Maritiman is the world's largest floating ship museum, with 19 historic vessels moored at the quayside in central Gothenburg. Visitors can board and explore everything from a submarine and a destroyer to a lightship and a fire boat — a hands-on maritime experience unlike any land-based museum.
Maritiman was founded in 1987 by local maritime enthusiasts who rescued historically significant vessels from scrapping. The museum has grown steadily and now spans a 300-metre quayside stretch. Its flagship, the destroyer Småland, was the largest warship ever built in Sweden at the time of its 1952 launch.
