Feskekôrka ("Fish Church") is Gothenburg's iconic indoor fish market, housed in a Gothic Revival building that unmistakably resembles a church. Opened in 1874, it is the temple of the city's legendary seafood culture, selling everything from shrimp and oysters to smoked mackerel and crayfish.
Designed by architect Victor von Gegerfelt, Feskekôrka was inaugurated on 1 November 1874. The distinctive church-like profile was deliberate — von Gegerfelt drew inspiration from Norwegian stave churches and Gothic architecture. After a major renovation in 2022–2023, it reopened with upgraded facilities while preserving its historic character.
