Tašmajdan Park is a green oasis in the heart of Belgrade, bordered by Saint Mark's Church and the Parliament building. Built above Roman- and Ottoman-era stone quarries (the name comes from the Turkish 'taş' meaning stone), it features fountains, playgrounds, and shaded walkways.
The quarries beneath the park supplied stone for Belgrade's Ottoman-era fortifications and buildings. The park was landscaped in the early 20th century and expanded after World War II. A 2006 renovation added new paths, lighting, and children's play areas.
