VilVite Bergen Science Centre

Overview

VilVite is Bergen's hands-on science centre with over 100 interactive exhibits spanning weather, energy, the human body, and the physics of everyday life. It also houses Western Norway's only public planetarium.

Highlights

• Weather studio: Create your own weather forecast in a studio modelled on NRK's broadcast set.
• Planetarium: Full-dome shows about the solar system, Northern Lights, and deep-space exploration.
• Energy exhibits: Hands-on experiments explaining oil, wind, and hydroelectric power — core Norwegian industries.

History

VilVite opened in 2008, backed by the University of Bergen and energy company Equinor. It was designed to inspire young people to pursue careers in science and technology, and receives about 100,000 visitors per year.

Visitor Tips

• Family favourite: Best suited for children aged 5–15.
• Planetarium: Shows run at fixed times — check the schedule on arrival.
• Duration: 1.5–2 hours.
