Overview
The Ulriken643 cable car carries passengers to the top of Mt. Ulriken (643 m), the highest of Bergen's Seven Mountains. From the summit there are spectacular views in every direction — fjords, the city, and the Hardangervidda plateau on clear days.
Highlights
- Highest viewpoint: Bergen's loftiest accessible peak, nearly double the height of Fløyen.
- Paragliding launch: Tandem paragliding operators launch from the summit in summer.
- Restaurant Ulriken: A mountain-top restaurant serving local cuisine with panoramic windows.
History
The cable car opened in 1961 and was the first of its kind in Norway. It was completely rebuilt in 2019 with new gondolas manufactured by CWA, increasing capacity and shortening the ride to seven minutes.
Visitor Tips
- Weather check: Ulriken is frequently shrouded in cloud; check the webcam before visiting.
- Combine with Fløyen: The Vidden trail connects the two summits (5–6 hours one way).
- Duration: 1–1.5 hours including the ride and summit exploration.
