Sandviken is a charming residential neighbourhood north of Bryggen, known for its rows of colourful wooden houses climbing the hillside above the harbour. Quieter and more local than the tourist-heavy city centre, it offers a glimpse of authentic Bergen life.
Sandviken was historically a fishing and shipping community outside the city walls. Many of its wooden houses survived the fires that devastated central Bergen, making it one of the most well-preserved neighbourhoods in the city.
