Bergen Cathedral (Bergen Domkirke) is the city's main church, a Romanesque-Gothic stone edifice with roots in the 12th century. Situated in the heart of the city, it has been Bergen's cathedral since 1537 and is still an active parish church.
Originally dedicated to St. Olav, the church was built around 1150 and served as the church of a Franciscan monastery. It has burned and been rebuilt multiple times — most notably after fires in 1623 and 1640 — and received its current tower in the 1880s.
