Oude Haven

Overview

Oude Haven (Old Harbour) is Rotterdam's original harbour basin, dating to 1350. Today it is a picturesque yacht harbour surrounded by cafés where historic boats are moored beneath the Cube Houses and the White House — Rotterdam's first skyscraper.

History

The Oude Haven was Rotterdam's commercial heart from the 14th century. The area was devastated in the 1940 Blitz but the harbour basin survived. Post-war reconstruction introduced the Cube Houses (1984) on its northern edge.
