Delfshaven is one of the few Rotterdam neighbourhoods to survive the 1940 German bombing, preserving its historic harbour, 17th-century warehouses, and canal houses. It was the departure point of the Pilgrims to America in 1620.
Originally the harbour of Delft, Delfshaven became part of Rotterdam in 1886. In July 1620, the Pilgrims departed from here aboard the Speedwell (later transferring to the Mayflower) bound for America. The neighbourhood miraculously survived the 1940 Blitz.
