The Hill of Three Crosses is a prominent hilltop monument overlooking the Vilnia river valley and the Old Town of Vilnius. Three white concrete crosses stand on the summit, a reconstruction of a centuries-old tradition. The site offers one of the most photographed panoramas in Lithuania, especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset.
Wooden crosses were first erected here in the 17th century to honour the legendary martyrdom of Franciscan friars. The Soviet authorities dynamited the crosses in 1950 and flattened the hilltop. In 1989, during the independence movement, new concrete crosses were erected to the original 1916 design by architect Antoni Wiwulski.
