History
The ancient port was the foundation of Genoa's maritime republic power. By the 20th century, port activity had shifted westward, leaving the medieval docks abandoned. Renzo Piano's masterplan for the 1992 Expo revived the area with sensitive contemporary interventions that respected the historic fabric.
