The Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) is a magnificent 17th-century residence on Via Balbi, retaining its original furniture, frescoes, mirrors, and artworks exactly as the Durazzo and Savoy families left them. Its hanging garden overlooking the port is an unexpected oasis.
Built between 1643 and 1650 by the Balbi family, the palace was acquired by the Durazzo family and then by the House of Savoy in 1824, becoming a royal residence. It was donated to the Italian state in 1919 and opened as a museum, uniquely preserving its original furnishings.
